MAJA is proud to launch its new showroom and furniture collection this Thursday, 13 August 2015. MAJA is a furniture collection dedicated to the exquisite textures and natural materials of Indonesia. Combining locally crafted materials with contemporary designs, MAJA is a celebration in the practice of making. Each object embodies MAJA’s core values of elegance, quality, and timelessness.

Founded by architects Diane Rhyu Taylor and Glenn Hartanto, MAJA is the fresh face in design that we have been waiting for. MAJA designs are inspired by the culture and landscape of Bali. As the principal designer and creative director of MAJA, Diane’s focus is on the discovery and exploration of local materials. Her mission is to create a furniture collection at the intersection of culture, environment, and design.

“Bali has a mysterious and magical allure related to the relationship the Balinese have with nature, spirituality, and beauty. I'm inspired by the Balinese sense of connection to the environment. The MAJA collection aspires to capture this relationship by revealing the sensual qualities in natural materials. Through the careful use of materials and attention to details, MAJA designs hope to create a sense of connection to nature and crafts,” states Diane.

MAJA showroom showcases a wide range of their fine products, including chairs, sofas, ottomans, tables, consoles, cabinets, armoires and pendant lamps. The collection uses natural, handcrafted materials such as hand-blown glass, hammered copper, and artisanal wood finishes. The showroom is an intimate atelier space, which is meant as a place to meet with customers for discussion, selection, and customization of pieces.

After the Bali launch, MAJA will be making its international debut at Paris Design Week. They have been selected to participate in ‘now! le Off’, an exhibition highlighting new design talent. As a Korean-American architect, Diane studied at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and practiced architecture in Paris before moving to Indonesia. So returning to Paris to introduce MAJA is really special. “We are excited to share our Bali-inspired designs with an international audience,” says Diane.
