TEDxUbud returns to Bali on Saturday, May5th, 2018, with the theme ‘Seen/Unseen’ at the 7th edition of this event. After the success of last year’s first night event, TEDxUbud continues to create a new magical experience for its audience, this time at a new venue —Njana Tilem Museum in Ubud, Bali—a stunning museum dedicated to preserving the art of Balinese woodcarving with a setting inspired by past Majapahit architecture.

Seen/Unseen is not a new concept in Bali. Here, we call it Sekala & Niskala. It is the colorful world of ceremony, ritual, dance, and drama that you see every day in the community; while the unseen is the spiritual forces underlying the pageants and rites. It serves to remind us there is so much that remains unknown. Thus, TEDxUbud will explore the world of the seen/unseen, whichincludes the hidden forces that shape our world, what’s under the surface of art, and the secret power of blood for biomedicine. The Seen/Unseen will lead us into the unknown and will enrich our world in ways we haven’t experienced before.

TED represents Technology, Entertainment and Design. The non-profit conference started with these three, but 35 years later TED Talks have branched out to various issues, from science to politics, from health to environment, from finance to self-growth. TEDx events like TEDxUbud are independently organized events. This is the single concept that has become the heart and soul of more than 16,500 events in 2,000 cities and 152 countries. It’s not just about the talks; TEDxUbud, like all TEDx events around the world, is about both speakers and audience members. TEDxUbud curators endeavor to make the mix of talks and attendees as creativity-inducing as possible.

Entering its 7th year, TEDxUbud always looks for new and different ways to inspire the participants, and surprise them. It is in the venue we chose, the speakers we invite, the sponsors we work with, the entertainment we find and in all of the smallest details that will make this an unforgettable experience. Come join us this year, and get your tickets here: tickets.tedxubud.com.

The confirmed speaker lineup for TEDxUbud 2018 includes: one of Bali's most inspiring female Chef, a chemist who is researching the unseen in Komodo Dragon blood, a cultural anthropologist who try to combine modern conservation strategy with the unseen belief system of the Bajau people, a brand builder who figure out a way to see failure and find the unseen path to success, the founder of cross cultural student exchange program to promote tolerance, a visual artist who believe that art can lead to social change, a UN youth advisor who is going to analyze Indonesia's youth, a community of young Balinese Dancers who celebrates tradition in their work, Bali's musical Einstein, an exciting Korean traditional percussionist who wanted to promote Jangu, a trio of talented ladies with a lot of soul, and a theatrical piece performed on a massive bamboo whale installation. About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

TED’s open and free initiatives for spreading ideas include TED.com , where new TED Talk videos are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from thousands of volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed ; the annual million-dollar TED Prize , which funds exceptional individuals with a “wish,” or idea, to create change in the world; TEDx , which provides licenses to thousands of individuals and groups who host local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, which selects innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
